Meet Recap: Natalie is your 3x Powerlifting America 57kg National Champion! The goal for this meet was to do what was needed to secure a spot on the Worlds team in June, and Natalie is now Lithuania bound! Natalie rounded out the day with a 380lb. squat, 248lb. bench press, and a 452lb. deadlift to secure a 1080lb. total! The total doesn’t fully express how good Natalie was feeling on the day, as there were just a few technical variables at play that we now have good information on to address. After a bit of a hiccup on the 3rd squat, we went slightly conservative on bench, and Natalie hit 248lbs. probably the best she ever has. After SBD Austin, we actually moved her grip width in two fingers on each side, and it paid dividends. It has been a lot more consistent in training, and that translated to meet day as well. If we had free rein, I really wanted to try loading up 116kg to take a shot at the AR, but that will have to wait for now. Moving into deadlift, I didn’t feel like she was quite safe yet based on her opener, so we dropped her 2nd attempt to be conservative and lock in the win. After that, it was time to have some fun, and even though it was a missed lift, my favorite lift of the entire day was the 3rd attempt YOLO deadlift at 485 lbs. That was Natalie’s first time touching that weight in two years, and if it wasn’t for a slight misgrip, I have little doubt the strength was there. Deadlift has been the lift that has lagged behind a bit, largely due to adaptations in technique following her prior back injury. Over the past six months though, the confidence to let loose and just pull has greatly improved. Moving forward, a big part of the process will simply be getting more exposure to these loads again to build confidence and execution. 14 weeks out to represent the rock, flag, and eagle on the world stage!
