Meet Recap: Jose competed at IPF Worlds in the 93kg class, where he was able to represent Mexico on the world stage and hit a 1,631lb. total! Jose rounded out the day with a 612lb. squat, 358lb. bench, and a 661lb. deadlift. This was a bucket list goal and experience that I do not think either of us quite expected this year, and was so excited to see Jose get to compete alongside the world’s best. Had to battle through some tough standards on the day, but Jose adapted well and Marco Rivera made some great calls to get the most out of the day for Jose. After a rough Mexican Nationals on deadlift, the nice win at worlds was a bit of redemption on that lift, although we still need to break that 3rd attempt deadlift curse. This meet was a bit of a surprise, if you made it through my essay caption of Jose’s last meet, as the plan was to cut down to 83kg and compete at NAPFs in August. But 6 weeks into that plan, Jose got the notification that there was a spot on the Mexican national team for him, and couldn’t pass up the opportunity and experience! So we switched gears and started prep for IPF Worlds. We were not fully sure what to expect from this prep with the short turnaround and body composition changes, but Jose did an excellent job of letting momentum build and was able to get back to a pretty good spot to make full use of this opportunity and showcase his strength. Now that this side quest is past, or maybe even the slight main quest, time to resume the journey into the 83kg class and see what damage Jose can do there!
