Meet Recap: Christiane competed at USAPL Nationals, placing 2nd in the 60kg division with a PR total of 491kg! Christiane was able to finish the day with an American Record squat of 188.5kg, a 120kg bench press, and a 182.5kg deadlift. Going into the meet, we knew it was going to be a battle with Mae per usual, yet this time there was also going to be added pressure from some phenomenal up and coming lifters in Sophia Fortin, Abigail Brosh, and Nicole Maranan. And that battle did not disappoint, as throughout the entirety of the meet, we had Abigail’s 485kg morning total to keep in mind, while Sophia was knocking on the door and Mae was within arms reach. On squat, we had set things up to be a bit more aggressive in the case that Christiane’s squat peaked incredibly well again. In past meets, Christiane often had the strength for 7.5-10kg over her gym best (she hit 187.5kg this prep, vs 182.5kg in her Arnold prep @ the same RPE), and I was usually hesitant to assume that would always happen. I knew at minimum Christiane likely had somewhere around 190kg even if the same peak did not happen. Unfortunately that super peak was not there on the day, and had a bit of an execution error on her 2nd squat. Her opener moved fantastic though, and the way she missed 187.5kg was not her normal miss pattern, so I honestly was pretty confident going into her 3rd attempt. Sophia had put in 193kg for an AR, so we chipped her chip with 188.5kg (meaning a 1kg chip vs a .5kg chip) to make sure Christiane got on the board and still had the chip advantage. And she was able to come up clutch and came back and nailed 188.5kg for her 4th meet in a row breaking the AR squat! As the meet played out, it was still a close battle, albeit Mae was in control. On Christiane’s 2nd deadlift, we made sure to chip the current 485kg standing total with 486kg to solidify a podium spot. From there, we then had the chance to briefly pull into the lead with Christiane’s 3rd deadlift. We went a bit conservative to make sure to take that 1kg lead and force Mae to hit a 3rd, or else I think Christiane likely had 185-187.5kg on the day. As well as to make sure to defend from Sophia being able to pull into 2nd if Christiane was to miss. As the dust settled Christiane secured the silver in the 60kg class, in what was her last weight division. She recapped this in her post, but it has become increasingly difficult for Christiane to cut to 60kg, which seemed to very much show in the strength she was able to translate from training to meet day. Christiane is perfectly built right now for 63kg, so regardless of USAPL or PA, that general range is to goal moving forward. After a difficult year last year dealing with a back injury that really hampered training, this was our best prep yet, and I’m going to do everything I can to make sure the next time Christiane competes we can display all that effort to its fullest.
