Meet Recap: Ethan competed at Powerlifting America Nationals in the 105kg class, where he was able to hit 2 big milestones, with a 272.5kg squat (600lbs.) and a 700kg total! Ethan rounded out the day with a PR bench of 150kg and a 277.5kg deadlift to secure the 700kg total. Ethan has been chasing that squat for years now, and after he smoked his 2nd attempt, it was a green light to go for the high end and milestone. After my heart skipped a beat when he paused for a second out of the hole, he got it moving and finished strong for a big PR! I think Ethan somehow knew Keller was walking in front of the camera and just wanted to wait for him to pass. For bench, we’ve really been pushing accessory work lately after Ethan was able to add some new equipment to his home gym, and it has paid off. He had been plateaued for a while on bench, and we actually decreased his frequency from 4x to 3x a week to add in more accessory volume, and it made a world of difference. And then to cap things off on deadlift, we took what was needed to secure the 700kg total, and it surprisingly moved better than expected. We’ll just save more for deadlift next time! I’ll be coming up on 5 years coaching Ethan this July, and it has been an absolute pleasure. We had some ups and downs through some life changes and a couple aches and pains, but this last year training has really taken off again. It was great to be able to handle Ethan on the day as he accomplished these big goals!
