Meet Recap: Jason competed at USAPL Nationals, and as he put it in his meet recap “felt like my strongest day yet”. Jason was able to end the day with a 666lb. squat, 435lb. bench press, and a 739lb. deadlift to round out a 1840lb. total in the 100kg class! As can be seen, Jason just absolutely crushed all of these 3rd attempts as well. We even went into this meet knowing we could be more aggressive with how well he peaked last year, but even so, all 3 lifts showed up incredibly strong. Bench was the biggest surprise, as his heaviest bench in all of prep was 424lbs. and it moved like a 3rd attempt. We were fairly confident knowing how well he performs on meet day that 430lbs. would be there based on that. But even with going aggressive with the top end of 435lbs., there seemed to easily be another 15lbs. or so left in the tank. On deadlift, in hindsight I really wished I had loaded 744lbs., as that would have actually pulled him into a 3 way tie for 7th place and winning on bodyweight. But it leads back to the day as a whole, where we were just a bit shocked how crazy strong he was. 738lbs. seemed like an aggressive top end option and he absolutely crushed it. Needless to say Jason brought it to Raw Nationals, and it is very evident he gets a big uptick just from being in competition and next time I’ll plan to hopefully take full advantage of that.
