Meet Recap: Nick competed at USAPL Raw Nationals, finishing 6th in the 110kg class! Nick was able to finish the day with a 694lb. squat, 418lb. bench press, and a 694lb. deadlift for a 1807lb. total. Bench was actually the most finicky lift during prep, but arguably showed up the best on meet day. We went a bit conservative after some oddities on squat, and after struggling with singles on technicalities in the 413-424lb. range, meet day was fantastic. And as Nick stated in his meet recap, really this could just be attributed to “Viking Stringray”, aka the carpet. That actually gives us pretty good info moving forward that the likely issues we see in training are based on leg drive, so Nick is just going to have to outfit the home gym with some Viking Stingray. As I mentioned, squats were a bit odd in that they were really strong on the day, but on his 3rd attempt he ended up stepping in a deadlift divot on his walkout. He tried to grind it out with a narrower stance and got about 3/4ths of the way up, but just wasn’t there. We were fortunately granted a relift, but at that point he was pretty zapped. Squat we knew had so much more in the tank, and training has just been on another level with squat, so next meet is just going to line itself up to hit a huge squat PR.
