Meet Recap: Nicolas competed at USAPL Rising Tide, where he was able to cap off a 7 for 9 day with a 1,802lb. total, and since there is no DOTS in the jungle, Nicolas will accept the first place trophy for highest total on the day! Nicolas rounded out his total with a 689lb. squat, 413lb. bench press, and a 700lb. deadlift. After missing out on the Arnold and Raw Nationals due to the stellar registration protocols, this was Nicolas’ “Nationals” this year. The goal on the day was a 500 DOTS score, so we did a very slight cut to come in at a lower bodyweight. To hit that though, we knew he needed to likely be perfect on squat and bench press, as deadlift has continued to be finicky with grip issues. Unfortunately he just narrowly missed his 3rd attempt squat, but was able to make up for it with some great execution on bench. Bench has been his most reliable meet day lift and it came in clutch again. With bench showing up how we needed, if he could manage a 332.5kg deadlift the 500 DOTS goal was still alive. The grip issues that have plagued us repeated itself though, oddly enough with the opposite hand this time, so it was not quite in the cards for this meet. Nicolas is a processed oriented lifter though, and it wasn’t more than 5 minutes after his 3rd attempt that we were already talking about ideas for training. I use Nicolas a lot in case studies for a reason, and it is because he is just as analytical and detailed as I am in regards to tracking every trend in training, and I appreciate that so much from him.
