Meet Recap: Wascar is your back to back IPF World Champion in the 59kg class! I’d be lying though if I said winning Worlds was enough, as the heartbreak of the Wascar’s final pull for Sheffield last year carried his motivation for the past year. Fortunately though, he doesn’t miss twice. Wascar finished the day a perfect 9 for 9, and secured a Sheffield qualification on his final pull to secure on the dot the total he needed in 637.5kg (1405lbs). Wascar rounded out that total with a 490lb. squat, 325lb. bench press, and a 589lb. deadlift. Going into the day, the pressure was on not only to secure his 2nd World title, but to hit the Sheffield QT. And we knew Wascar could not miss a single lift. He had to have the perfect calls and he had to execute perfectly to accomplish the goal, and he did exactly that. Wascar could not have been more deserving of this performance and opportunity, and I am so incredibly proud of all his hard work to make this happen. It takes a certain level of dedication and sacrifice to be at this level, but there is something extra that tends to be added with lifters competing at 59kg. Most are not built for this class, including Wascar, and have to go through pretty extreme dieting phases. As I’ve alluded to often, Wascar pretty much has to do a full bodybuilding prep to be at 59kg, and we couldn’t have done that with the help of Marcellus Williams. Wascar went through 7 straight months of dieting for this meet, and that added discipline to do that is what sets him apart. Big thanks as well to Matt Gary, as that is 2 straight meets with perfect attempt selection, and I got a feeling it won’t be the last!
