Meet Recap: Zach competed at USAPL Nationals, where he was able to finish the day with a 1592lb. total in the 90kg class! This was actually Zach’s first Raw Nationals, which is pretty crazy considering I first started coaching him in 2020 leading into the Arnold Battle of the Regions (RIP, that was a great idea IMO). Zach was able to round out the day with a 545lb. squat, 408lb. bench press, and a 639lb. deadlift. We took a different approach to squat and deadlift, which I will touch on why in a bit. But we really only had planned openers set and then just made calls on the day for 2nd and 3rds based on how things moved. Squat and deadlift ended up performing better than we thought, and in hindsight, Zach honestly was at or around his best on the day, and I think he very much had 556-561lbs. on squat and 650-661lbs. on deadlift. The fun on the day was that bench grind though and Zach executed perfectly to make that happen. Zach is one of my longest standing athletes, and it was awesome to be able to handle him again in person (1st time since the 2020 Arnold) and appreciate all the effort, work, and trust he’s put into this over the last 5 years!
