Meet Recap: Lorenzo set out this year to be the best he could be. His focus, controlling of variables, and putting in the work day in and day out was at a new level these past 12 months. Lorenzo hadn’t competed in almost 2 years, and now after his 3rd meet in 7 months, Lorenzo can call himself a professional powerlifter after competing in the USAPL Virginia Pro last weekend! Lorenzo had never actually competed at Nationals, mainly due to the fact that the usual October time does not fit with his work schedule in collegiate strength and conditioning. So this was his first taste of what it was like to be on the big stage, and what better meet to do so in than what I’d consider the best meet I’ve ever been to. Lorenzo finished the day with a 611lb. squat, 380lb. bench press, and 705lb. deadlift for a 1697lb. total! Strength on squat and deadlift was fantastic on the day, but we played squat a bit conservative to save some energy for deadlift. His 2nd deadlift at 705 moved about the fastest it ever has, so with nothing really on the line for his 3rd, we loaded up the high end option of 733 but unfortunately it wasn’t quite there. All in all, I know Lorenzo came away with one of the best meet experiences of his life and most of what we set out to accomplish this year we did.
