Meet Recap: Tony competed at the USAPL Midwest/Central Regionals this weekend, finishing with a 485lb. squat, 325lb bench, 485lb. deadlift, and a 1,295lb. total! Tony went 7/9, and was a slight misgroove away on his 3rd attempt squat of 502lbs. from having a really big day. Due to that misgroove though, we went a bit more conservative on bench press and tied his previous best of 325lbs., but this time faster, and then on deadlifts we went for a 507lb. pull to tie his previous best total, but just wasn’t there on the day. This meet moved super quick and the AC went out during the Saturday session, so it was a day where I figured strength would probably tail off more than usual going into deadlift. Biggest thing we learned with this meet prep is the emphasis we need to put on nutrition. Due to some back and forth schedule changes at work, Tony couldn’t find the same consistency with eating that he had in the past. Every aspect of training adds up, and the 2-3% he possibly lost from not having things 100% like he was for his meet in March is probably the difference in 5-10lbs. on each lift at his current strength levels, so I am going to do a better job of keeping on top of that and making sure Tony has what he needs.
